Match The NHTSA Campaign Number

Campaign numbers identify official recall actions. Use them to compare the defect summary, affected units, component, remedy and manufacturer recall number.

Schedule The Free Recall Repair

Safety recall remedies are normally completed by an authorized dealer at no charge. Follow any do-not-drive, park-outside or stop-use instruction in the official notice.

Vehicle Recalls FAQ

Answers for searches such as vehicle recalls, car recall check, NHTSA VIN lookup and car recalls by make and model.

Can I check a vehicle recall by VIN?

This page helps you search recall notices. For exact open recall status on one vehicle, use the official NHTSA VIN or license plate lookup and compare any linked campaign details.

What is an NHTSA campaign number?

An NHTSA campaign number is the official identifier for a recall action. It helps match the defect, affected vehicles, remedy and manufacturer communication.

Are vehicle recall repairs free?

Safety recall remedies are generally free at an authorized dealer. The official notice explains whether the remedy is a repair, replacement, refund, software update or inspection.

Why does a VIN search show no recall when a model has one?

A make and model recall may affect only certain production ranges or VINs. Recently announced recalls may also need time before all VINs are loaded by the manufacturer or agency.
